A huge number of people are already getting fucked over when it comes to being allowed to cast a vote in the upcoming elections. Let’s try to minimize what that number COULD be as much as possible.

It might also be useful to have the number for the ACLU written down (or already in your phone) so you can CALL THEM while still at the polling place and get whatever information is needed in order to see about having the ACLU sue them. Write down names. Get witnesses. Take photos. MAKE IT VERY CLEAR TO THE POLLSTERS THAT YOU ARE GOING TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE. (Unless you have reason to believe they’re going to be assholes and try to have you arrested for doing so, in which case, be as subtle as possible.)

Some more info on this, state by state.

^^ Really look at the state by state info so just in case this happens you’ll know what to do!

My mother had three pregnancies, and two children.  She had a miscarriage, between my brother and I, in that four year span between our births, there was another pregnancy, another child desperately wanted, who didn’t live to term.

My mother had her pre-natal care, and her post-miscarriage care, at Planned Parenthood.

Because it was the best place for her.  Because at the time, she had a two year old child and a bike and they were living just around that nice little sweet spot between ‘desperately poor’ and ‘almost have enough to consider a savings account.’  And when you are poor, and female, and need health services, Planned Parenthood is there.

And my mother walked past the protesters, walked past the people who screamed at her about not killing her baby, about how she was a whore, and she was going to hell.  My mother, in mourning for a child that she had lost, blaming herself, hating herself for failing at this most feminine of things, walked through that, to care for herself, to get the medical care she needed.  So that someday, two years later, she could have me.

I cannot speak to the courage that must have taken.  But that path is walked by thousands of women.  Every single day.

She donated to Planned Parenthood until her death.  And she said to me, that the people who screamed at her saw her only as a vessel for a baby.  They didn’t care about her, they didn’t care about her baby, either.  They were pro-birth, not pro-life, because none of them would be there after her baby was born, to offer help and support and care.

The protesters didn’t care about her.  And the medical professionals inside did.  It is the right of every woman to have access to safe, affordable, quality health care, no matter where she comes from, what her income is, or what choices she makes with her life.  And that is what these kind of bills are attempting to take away.

This is important.

For many, clinics like Planned Parenthood are one of the only options for free or low cost health care.

97% of Planned Parenthood services are health and wellness related, not abortion. (And legally, federal money cannot be used for abortion services).

STUDENTS: you can register to vote both at your home address and your uni address (though obviously you can only vote once)

FELLOW BRITS IN THE UK: Make sure your overseas address is registered and get a proxy voter if you can. Don’t rely on the postal votes getting back home in time if you can avoid it.
NOT SURE WHO TO VOTE FOR? You have time to make your choice, but register NOW.

Heeeeyyyy… so Brexit huh? And a General Election on 12th December. Great huh? Big powerful Conservatives party that think they can’t be toppled because so many boomers will vote for them… just great huh?

Just in case anyone is disabled, wants equality, or relies on the current government for basic human rights, i quote from the article what the plans are after we leave the EU;

The bill states: “The Charter of Fundamental Rights is not part of domestic law on or after exit day.”

Vote. Make sure you vote. For anyone except Conservative or UKIP. Google tactical voting to see who is best to vote for in your area to oust the Conservatives. Because if you don’t then we’ll be heading back to pre-ww2 era bigotry, racism, and discrimination.

Share this far and wide. Even if you arent a brit please share.

Snopes is struggling due to mounting legal fees and they are a crucial organization for the fucked up, anti-truth time we’re currently living in, so I’m donating what I can and also writing drabbles* in exchange for any level of donation.

If you donate $50+, I am also willing to update the WIP of your choice lol

Just donate & send me a screenshot and a prompt/pairing.

*in this case, drabbles means at least 100 words; they will likely be more because i have no restraint or good sense

Here’s the letter from the Snopes page describing the issue:
November 1, 2019 by David Mikkelson, Organizer

Dear Readers,

We wish we had better news, but they have filed another appeal. This time they’re appealing our successful defense of our First Amendment rights.

Parties suing us — including newly minted CEO of Salon.com, Chris Richmond — have spent years filing losing motions, asking for continuances, changing legal counsel, and appealing adverse rulings.

It is all part of a scheme, our counsel wrote, “to ‘bring legal hell’ on Snopes employees in retaliation for terminating Snopes’ contract with Proper Media.”

Even the court described their tactics as “hostile.”

With the truth on our side, we have foiled their attempts so far. But now the case will drag on even longer and legal fees will continue to drain our revenues, threatening Snopes’ existence.

But even while they try to drag us down, we are showing up to make Snopes work better for you.

Soon we will bring you two major new developments:

A membership program that will reward sustaining Snopes supporters with special features and exclusive content.

And Snopes News, a feed without the falsity, where you can find headlines of the day curated by fact-checkers and editors you know you can trust. Sign up for updates here.

So long as we have your support, we will not give up.

Make a contribution today to defend Snopes.

Truthfully yours,
Team Snopes

I’d like to add Snopes is one of THE most trusted sources out there, and if it goes we will lose a great deal

Electronic Frontier Foundation and other forces of light have been quite successful lately in defending against such attacks. There’s a growing legal know-how and a growing network of knowledgeable people. I am cautiously optimistic that community support at this crucial time CAN make a difference for Snopes.

Fun fact, y’all!! Jewish protesters have been surrounding and shutting down ICE detention centers for weeks now, and we’re getting absolutely NO media coverage. None. In the slightest. And by jewish protesters I mean THOUSANDS OF US HAVE BEEN PROTESTING FOR NIGHTS ON END AND OVER 250 HAVE BEEN ARRESTED AT THIS POINT AND WE ARE GETTING ZERO COVERAGE. This is probably the biggest protest movement in american jewish history and it’s getting no coverage. We got hit with a truck DRIVEN BY A DETENTION CENTER GUARD and pepper sprayed and many people ended up in the hospital - one man in his sixties has a broken leg and a potentially broken back because of it. PLEASE REBLOG THIS. THOUSANDS OF YOUR JEWISH SIBLINGS ARE TRYING TO SHUT DOWN THE CENTERS AND WE’RE GETTING ZERO COVERAGE. PLEASE PLEASE SPREAD THIS AROUND.

corporatetwitteraccount:

Its the same people. If you can stomach working for ICE its because you’re a right-wing fascist. Same tactics, different day.

corporatetwitteraccount:

As this information is publicly available, the law in the US does not consider this doxxing, which is why it was on twitter on the first place. Here’s the guy.

solarpunkwobbly:

The truck was driven by an ICE guard.

EDIT: Wyatt ICE Detention Center, not Wayne

SOURCE: Never Again Action’s twitter livestream of the action and the car attack

dravidarasathi:

It doesn’t seem like there are any serious injuries. The people who were around the truck after it stopped accelerating into people were pepper sprayed.

dravidarasathi:

Like they were holding the line across the entry gate and refusing to let night shift guards in and a massive truck just, fucking, drove up to them then slowed as the protestors got up from where they were sitting, alarmed, then the truck accelerated into people.

dravidarasathi:

Holy shit…. Never Again Action (the group who started #JewsAgainstICE) had an ICE detention truck drive through them while they were shutting down Wayne Detention Center in Rhode Island this evening (August 14th).

I’m not a brave man. I’m not a violent man. But I am a man who knows my strengths, and I’m prepared to use them.

So if I encounter any ICE agents in my neighborhood, I will smile and waive and as soon as they make eye contact I will engage in the most aggressively friendly chitchat ever witnessed on my block.

I will ramble on and on about whatever pops into my head. I will ask them about their day, their hobbies, their home life, and their personal backstory until I find a common area of interest, and then I will crank my smalltalk game UP TO ELEVEN.

I will force them to look awkwardly at their wristwatch DOZENS of times without taking the hint. I will ask seemingly simple questions that do not have ANY simple answers. I will pretend to wrap up the conversation with, “Anyway…” and then segue DIRECTLY into another topic.

Because every minute an ICE agent wastes chatting with me is a minute that they’re not targeting my neighbors and disrupting their lives.

I’m no superhero, but I do have a super power, and I’ll use it to fight oppression in any way I can.

Love you, Dave

[profile] flavoracle I’m not a brave man, and I suck at small talk, but I would say I can be violent, what should I do? Because I’m not brave enough to act out but I wanna help

I mean, I’m not gonna ask anybody to engage in violence, but if you’re looking for something to do, what about this?

Get a copy of the song, Cotton Eye Joe. Carry around a big, loud speaker. If you ever see ICE show up in your neighborhood, start playing it at full blast.

Best case scenario? You can motion for them to come over your way and challenge them to a dance off. (Probably not likely, but it never hurts to dream.)

Worst case scenario? They think you’re weird and like Cotton Eye Joe.

Likely scenario? If you’ve let your neighbors know ahead of time that hearing Cotton Eye Joe means ICE is in the neighborhood, it may give them the head start they need to avoid harassment.

Now you might be thinking that picking Cotton Eye Joe is a really random choice, but consider the following reasoning:

The song has a very loud, clear, and distinctive opening, so it gets the message across right away without spending time on any kind of intro

The song was once popular enough that people can easily recognize it

While the song is catchy, it’s not very likely to be anyone’s favorite, so you don’t have to worry about ruining it for them

The opening line ‘Fit’adn’t is nonsensical enough to be used as a secret tipoff if you’re unsure who’s listening

It’s upbeat enough that it likely won’t get on your nerves too fast

When played really loud, it becomes nearly impossible to talk over

Would this actually work? Honestly, I have no idea. I’m no expert in active resistance. But I figure it’s worth putting out there. And who knows, maybe it could catch on.

Stay safe everybody.

‘Fit’adn’t

I can’t even put into words how upset I am about this. Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation has been open for almost twenty years, and is the only place in North Texas that takes in literally any type of bird if it’s been injured, orphaned, or otherwise incapacitated. They’re finally out of funds, and if they can’t come up with anything by April 2nd, they’re going to be forced to close their doors.

They’ve never turned away birds. Not when it’s a surprise 200 baby cattle egrets that’ve been orphaned because city planners thought they could cut down their homes and no one would notice. Not when it’s raptors with one good eye and in need of seven different antibiotics. Not even when it’s ducks that irresponsible parents won’t let their kids keep after easter. This is where anyone let me first get up close to birds. I mean, I’ve known I wanted to work with birds and wildlife since I was seven- I’m twenty four now, and halfway through an environmental science master’s and it’s a big reason I kept going.

I’ve been going to this place on and off for ten years, I was THIRTEEN when I started volunteering and seeing all the terrible things that happen to the birds that come in. Not just…hit by trucks, or caught in a hailstorm but parrots that have been left in foreclosed houses for weeks, and roosters that have come out of cock fighting rings and would otherwise be put down because the SPCA and humane societies don’t think they’re salvageable. There’s an emu that was raised there as a baby because no one wanted her. Her name’s Riley and I can’t even begin to comprehend what shutting the doors to the center would mean?

They don’t get government aid. They’ve been funded by the public donating and Kathy, the lady who owns the place, going through her retirement funds and savings and her social security to keep it running. She’s finally run out of money. Please,  just reblog? Even if you can’t donate anything- and I know it’s a lot to ask for poor teenage/college kids to donate money that they don’t have, or struggling artists I know but maybe someone who can spare something will see it eventually? They need $200,000 to keep open for a year to continue to help 4000 birds a year.

Just, thanks for reading, guys. Here’s the gofundme link: http://www.gofundme.com/l8aj7k

Friends, please help spread the word! If you can spare some funds, please consider it! Can we drown them in $5 donations? Anyone have a birthday coming up they can do a fundraiser for instead of gifts?

I can’t tell how old the original post is (thanks tumblr). OP deactivated but I don’t know how to tell when and which April? The gofundme was created a few years back BUT smart people create fundraisers like that before going through their retirement funds, and they are almost at the $100k point. We can HELP!! I’ll be sharing this on my facebook page, I have naturalist friends in the DFW area, and they can spread the word (if they haven’t already).

ALL BIRBS ARE GOOD BIRBS

According to their Facebook, they’re still going, so I’m betting it’s current. Even if it’s not, places like this ALWAYS can use funding. In addition to the gofundme, their website also lists that they have an Amazon wish list and that they’re registered for Amazon Smile (which gives money to them for you doing normal Amazon purchases), in case either of those are in your ability.

Article 13 is going into it’s final stages of voting.

If this gets through, it will allow many, many companies to abuse and misuse this article to take down as many memes, fan works, and even other independent creators on sites like YouTube, Facebook, and other websites INCLUDING Tumblr.

THE FAIR USE LAW AND SAFEHARBOR LAW WILL NO LONGER APPLY IN THE U.S OR IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

IT HAS ALREADY PASSED IN SEVERAL OTHER COUNTRIES.

WE CANNOT ALLOW THEM TO TAKE AWAY WHAT WE BUILT FOR THE INTERNET SO FAR.

So here is what you need to do to drag this article down.

1. Spread the word

I can’t stress this enough. The more attention this gets the more people we can get to take this down.

2. Make your own content

Make your own content on the matter and make sure it is clear to others that Article 13 is bad for every internet user involved.

3. If you live anywhere in Europe, contact your MEPs

Ask them if they approve of the article and why. If they do approve of it, try to convince them in a clear, reasonable, and most sensible way possible that this law is BAD.

The article itself is way to vague about what it’s conveying to its people.

Saying that as long as the use of said internet memes or content is good as long as it’s in “good faith.”

We cannot let some shoddy government tell us what we can and cannot post.

FREE SPEECH IS A HUMAN RIGHT. NOT A PRIVILEGE.

Here’s a video on Article 13 that Film Theory made on the matter. It will explain things better than I can.

Edit: I’ve noticed that some people are having trouble with getting the video to work. So here is the new link
