I love how this fits so well into the category of monster-tries-to-monster-but-world-is-even-more-monstrous-and-actually-evil.
the next logical step is thus of course for the shopkeeper to decide to DO-Something about this, because damnit they just can`t work in these conditions!
I am not exactly sure what they would do, though. Not give out items for free, of course, although it would be fittingly opposite it would also just not work, because they are after all The Shopkeeper.
But, like, maybe they does some research to find out who has the most means and then decide that although the customer gets the goods, the person best equipped will be the one to pay? (do I have some very real contempt and aggression for bezos and co? well, maybe..)
or maybe it’s more karmically specific, like, the customer gets the goods but the cost is to be paid by the last person to systematically fuck them over? I think in that case The Shopkeeper might need an assistant, like, some kind of karma-tracing entity… maybe one of furies? all of them? something like that? might lead to a nice spread, like, healthInsurancefuckers, big-pharma, various corporations (no escape for bezos and co), corrupt politicians, etc, pp
